Beijing Still Supports Nuclear Power

The world is concerned about Japan』s nuclear leak,

which resulted from the earthquake.

Chinese officials said, they will carry on China』s

vigorous plan for nuclear power development,

despite the concerns and questions.

The Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency of

Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry in Japan,

declared on March 12, that radioactive substances

in Fukushima Nuclear Plant have been leaked out.

Radiation levels are 70 times higher than normal.

Around 20,000 local residents have been

moved out of the hazardous zone.

Another explosion took place on March 14

at Fukushima Nuclear Plant』s Unit 3 Reactor,

causing more anxiety. Japan』s authorities required

the residents within 20 kilometers of the explosion

to stay indoors. Associated Press journalists

felt the strong shake 50 kilometers from the plant.

The nuclear plant declared a state of emergency.

Minister of Environment Protection in China,

Zhang Lijun, declared at a press conference

on Mar. 12 that the earthquake-induced

nuclear leak in Japan would not affect

China』s plan to develop nuclear power.

Greenpeace believed, the nuclear leak in Japan,

a country emphasizing safety, again confirmed

the potential hazard of nuclear power.

Li Yan, Director of Energy Resources Project, said

that Japan』s nuclear accident was a wake-up call

to China』s decision makers for energy source.

LiYan:“Wecan make effort to improve efficiency

of China』s available sources, like the energy

conservation and pollution reduction project

of the last five years. There is great potential

in this project. China also has great potential in

clean and reproducible energy sources,

like wind and solar energy.”

International Business Times reveals why China

is rapidly developing nuclear power.

As the largest pollution discharger in the world,

China attempts to reduce discharge

by building more nuclear plants. Therefore, it plans

to expand its13 existing nuclear plants to 40.

German media questioned this plan of China』s,

which is the world』s fastest nuclear expansion plan.

Die Welt believed that the earthquake in Japan

aroused questions like how reliable are the nuclear

plants built through CCP』s accelerated process.

Actually, the safety conditions of the existing

nuclear plants in China are not promising.

According to an Epoch Times report,

the Daya Bay Nuclear Power Station in Shenzhen

experienced nuclear leak last May.

But the authorities blocked the information.

Wu Zhigang, commentator of Securities Times,

wrote in his commentary,

the fearful nuclear leak was a wake-up call.

It alarmed China』s nuclear power industry. He said,

we must emphasize on the construction quality.

We could never lower it for the sake of

higher development speed.

Once a nuclear plant was built, it would run

in the long term and must stand the test of time.

It would make an impact on our descendants.
