Deported Student a National Hero
Sven Englund, a Swede studying Chinese at Shanghai』s Fudan University,
was recently expelled by the Chinese authorities, because he wrote to Hu Jintao,
to criticize the human rights situation and the lack of freedom in China.
However, after returning home, he has become a celebrity.
Let』s take a look.
Englund, 24, has written three open letters to Hu Jintao,
the Chinese Communist Party』s (CCP) leader.
Englund also called for a "flash event" on July 1, the CCP』s anniversary.
After being deported to Sweden,
the now-famous Englund has received support from his family, friends and university.
Englund: They all support me very much. Yesterday,
my Swedish University called me to tell me that they think I should have the freedom of opinion.
(They think) the whole world should have media freedom,
regardless whether I am in Sweden or in China.
Englund started to draw media attention on April 8, 2011, when he sent his first open letter to Hu.
He pointed out that China is not a democratic or free state.
Its current name "People』s Republic of China" should be changed to "the Chinese Communist Party State."
Englund: "I do not like the way, in which the Communist Party rules.
In Sweden, if we do not like our government, we can change it.
However, in China, the people have no way to change (their government).
The people have no power, which is in the hands of the CCP.
Therefore, China is not a “people's republic.”
In his third open letter, Englund called for a "flash event" on July 1, the birthday of the CCP.
He called the netizens to freeze for five minutes at 6:00 p.m. and to have the characters "freedom" written on their clothes.
After founding him through his blog, the CCP』s securities demanded him to abandon his plan.
Englund: I said only 5 minutes.
As my activity is 5 minutes, these 5 minutes are my responsibility.
However they said, “not only the 5 minutes.
You are responsible for the whole night.
Whatever happens on the Bund is your responsibility.”
After these unpleasant experiences, Englund returned to his democratic and free homeland.
When asked by reporters whether he would go back to China, he said that he was unable to go back temporarily.
However, if China changes, he would be willing to go back.
Englund: "I think China can change.
However, this is the responsibility of every Chinese.
We should not believe the Communist Party.
We should consider how we will change, and make the change happen.
Englund said, after returning home, he was interviewed 10 to 15 times by reporters.
He also went to TV and radio stations.
Many people contacted him on the Internet, by email or on Twitter, Facebook and the blogs.
In the last two weeks, he had 1,500 more Twitter followers, most of whom are from China.
